St. Michaels in Old Town

St. Michael’s history goes back to 1848 when Michael Diversey donated the land. His family’s name is perpetuated in Diversey Boulevard, and his Christian name in the church dedicated to his patron, Saint Michael. The first church was built in 1852 on the corner of Hudson Avenue and North Avenue.

The Palmer House

The Palmer House – A Hilton Hotel is a historic hotel in Chicago Loop. The first Palmer House opened in 1870, and the present building (the third) in 1925. In the 19th century, the Palmer House was the city's first hotel with elevators, and the first hotel with electric light bulbs and telephones in the guest rooms.

The first was built as a wedding present from Potter Palmer to his bride Bertha Honore. Located at State and Quincy, it opened on September 26, 1870. It burned one year later on October 9, 1871, during the Great Chicago Fire. Palmer had already begun construction of a new hotel at State and Monroe prior to the Great Chicago Fire.

Marge's Still

Marge's Still was opened in 1885, and bathtub gin was prepared on the second floor above this former grocery store during Prohibition, with patrons entering the speakeasy through the side stairwell. Pop in here for a pint and Kelly may serve you with a smile:)
